Dotted lines in The Gimp

GimpHere’s a quick tip on how to draw dotted lines in The Gimp (Open-source Photoshop alternative). I stumbled upon it when I was trying to draw a cut-out line for some promotional design I was making last night.

Instructions based on Gimp 2.6.6 behind the cut!

Open up the Pencil tab. If you don’t have it docked somewhere, you can get it from Windows -> Dockable Dialogs -> Pencils

  1. In this menu, copy over an existing pencil, or start a new one.
  2. The key here is to adjust the Interspacing slider at the bottom until there’s enough space betwoon the dots. You’ll have to try this out to make sure.
  3. Save your pencil, and close the dialog.
  4. Use the pencil tool, select your newly created pencil, and draw a straight line. (Click + Shift for easy drawing)
  5. Voilà, dot magic!
