Spectrial, day 2

tpblogoThe Pirate Bay Trial in Stockholm, Sweden takes a nice flight on the second day of the court hearings. Håkan Roswall, the rather clumsy and quite un-tech-savvy prosecutor brought on some evidence which didn’t prove that the .torrent files (which are appearantly demonstrated using screenshots) actually use TPB trackers. This resulted in the prosecution dropping roughly 50% of the charges brought on. As brokep mentions: Epic Winning Lol.

More info and a list of trail info sources behind the cut!

From the purpleflagship blog, which is basing its claims on the swedish audio feed, I think:

[10.04] Fredrik Neij requests to make a comment on the analysis of the trackers. This is normally not allowed but the court makes an exception. Fredrik Neij explains that the torrent-files being shown contains no information and that they merely passed through The Pirate Bays servers

The prosecution is building a case on a misunderstanding of the technology.” – defendant Fredrik Neij.

The court requests him to clarify and asks: “Are you claiming that the evidence before us doesn’t prove that the Pirate Bays’ trackers where used?” The defendants are pleased when they all answer yes.

[10.07] Prosecutor Håkan Roswall requests a 10 minute recess.

Local Swedish newspapers call this an exceptional twist in a court case. The IFPI was quick to release a statement spinning the drop of the charges (from torrentfreak)

“It’s a largely technical issue that changes nothing in terms of our compensation claims and has no bearing whatsoever on the main case against The Pirate Bay. In fact it simplifies the prosecutor’s case by allowing him to focus on the main issue, which is the making available of copyrighted works,”

Next days will be immensely interesting. Share the #spectrial info, and keep the world up-to-date.
